What do I need for my first Akron dispensary visit?
What medical patients will need to bring:
- Medical Marijuana Card – this can be brought in either on a smartphone or a printed out paper copy.
- Your ID that you registered with to get your Medical Marijuana Card
For First Time Patients, you must complete a Patient Intake Form.
Please note: Patients will only receive an electronic card from the Medical Marijuana Control Program. Physical cards will not be mailed.
What non-medical guests will need to bring:
- Valid government-issued photographic ID.
What payment methods are accepted?
The Botanist Akron dispensary accepts debit, cash, and Dutchie’s Pay-by-Bank at all of our Ohio dispensary locations. For your convenience, there’s also an ATM on-site.
Please note: Some payment methods may include processing fees, depending on your provider.
Can I use my medical marijuana card from another state?
No, unfortunately not, only Ohio medical marijuana cards can be accepted by Akron dispensaries at this time. For more information, please visit the State Medical Board of Ohio Medical Marijuana information page.
Can I bring someone with me to your Akron dispensary?
Unfortunately, no. Only registered patients, caregivers, and adults 21+ are permitted to enter the dispensary.
How much cannabis can I legally buy in Akron, OH?
Adults aged 21+ can legally purchase 2.5 ounces of cannabis flower or 15 grams of cannabis extract per transaction under Ohio’s recreational marijuana laws. Medical patients registered with the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program (OMMCP) may possess up to a 90-day supply, with specific daily limits (e.g., 2.83 grams of flower or 110mg THC in pills/tinctures). No need to worry, we’ll ensure you stay within these legal limits during your Akron dispensary shopping.
How much is the tax on cannabis in Akron, OH?
Recreational marijuana purchases at our Akron dispensary are subject to:
- 10% excise tax
- 5.75% state sales tax
- Local sales tax (up to 2.25% in Summit County, where Akron is located This results in a total tax rate of 15.75%–18%, depending on local rates.
Medical marijuana purchases are exempt from the 10% excise tax but still incur standard sales taxes.
Do you offer any Akron dispensary discounts?
The Botanist offers a variety of discounts, including vendor and product deals, as well as senior,veteran, and indigent discounts. Must provide documentation showing that you are a part of these groups.

Product Return Policy
All customers and patients are encouraged to contact the [email protected] email regarding return inquiries for fastest service. However, guests are welcome to
return to the store where they originally completed their purchase to process the return in person if it meets any of the following criteria.
- Guests must be able to provide the original product label, dispensary receipt, and purchased item itself to be eligible for a return
- Purchase must have been within the last 30 days
- Mandatory or Voluntary recall
- Product that does not match the item stated on the purchase receipt is deemed “defective” per DCC
- Product was mislabeled by a cultivator or processor Allowable Accessory Returns
- Defective devices priced $20 and under can be exchanged for a new device (the same device). EX: AVD Seed, Silo, Luster, Airo battery
- We cannot exchange defective devices over $20. Guests must contact the manufacturer for a return/refund.
